Since arriving in Athens in 1989, Jonathan Foggin has dived head-first into Athens area swimming. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Coach Foggin was lured away from the Volunteer state by the prospect of swimming with Coaches Jack Bauerle and Harvey Humphries at the University of Georgia. After a four year letterman's career, during which he placed 3rd in the 200 Breaststroke at the SEC Championships, and in 1993 was named the UGA Scholar Athlete of the Year, he settled down in Athens, and has been developing young talent ever since.
Coach Foggin has been a partner and Head Age Group coach with the Athens Bulldog Swim Club (a USA Swimming certified organization) since 1996, but has spent a good deal of time working with local Summer League programs as well. In 1993 and 1994 he coached the Cedar Creek Whirlwinds (now part of Eastside Swim Team), and after the regular season was over, served as Head Coach of the Athens/Clarke State Meet teams.
In 2006 at the request of officials from Leisure Services, he joined with UGA Associate Head Coach, Harvey Humphries, to help rebuild a flagging Summer League program in Athens/Clarke County. Since Coaches Humprhies and Foggin came on board, the Dolphins Swim Team has thrived.
Coach Foggin is proud to be a part of this swimming renaissance in Athens and is excited about the future of aquatic sports in the area. He and his wife, Clayton, and their three children, Will, Charlotte, and Henry look forward to many more years of successful Dolphins swimming. |
